The gap OHIP doesn't fill
Canada's public health system handles the medical treatment well. It doesn't handle the financial side at all. The average Canadian spends months navigating recovery, reduced work hours, and out-of-pocket costs that accumulate far faster than most people expect.
A lump-sum benefit paid on diagnosis gives you choices: take time off without depleting savings, pursue treatment at a specialist centre outside your region, cover childcare or caregiver costs, or simply keep the household running while you concentrate on getting well.
What's covered

- Cancer
- Heart attack

Full list of covered conditions, survival periods, and exclusions vary by insurer and plan. Jatinder will review the policy wording with you before you purchase.
How the benefit is used
Stress-free recovery
Step away from work without the financial pressure of depleting savings or missing mortgage payments during treatment and recovery.
International treatment
Travel to a leading specialist or treatment centre anywhere in the world. Costs that provincial health plans don't cover.
Additional care costs
Private nursing, home modifications, specialist consultations, and alternative therapies that fall outside what OHIP reimburses.
Business continuity
Self-employed individuals and business owners can use the benefit to cover business expenses or hire a replacement while they recover.
Tax-free benefit
Critical illness benefits are paid as a tax-free lump sum. You receive the full coverage amount with no deductions at source.
Family income protection
Protects your family from the income loss that follows a serious diagnosis, particularly for households that depend on a single earner.
How it differs from disability insurance
Disability insurance replaces a portion of your monthly income as long as you remain unable to work. It's a recurring benefit tied to your capacity to earn. Critical illness insurance pays a single lump sum immediately upon diagnosis of a covered condition, regardless of whether you can return to work afterward. Many clients carry both: one replaces income over time, the other handles the immediate financial shock of a serious diagnosis.
